Madcap Castle” is a Brazilian game produced by Diel Mormac Games and published by Indústria de Jogos, emerging to enhance the quality of 2D pixelated platform games that are adored by our Brazilian developers. Additionally, the game gives players a genuine sense of nostalgia, as it takes us back to a not-so-distant past when graphics were not seen as the main focus and the only criteria that truly mattered during the lineup were fun, challenges, and, when possible, understanding the game’s storyline in English.

When playing Madcap Castle for the first time, it is practically impossible not to be reminded of the classic Game Boy titles and feel nostalgic. The game is very well-crafted and deserves high praise, as it harks back to games created over 10 years ago. Nevertheless, technology also allows for significant improvements; even though the graphics are in the famous, classic style of the Nintendo handheld from the 90s, the mechanics are completely modern and highly dynamic.

Madcap Castle boasts a perfect combination: a fusion of retro graphics and sounds with more contemporary mechanics, making it essentially a 2D platform game full of challenges. Therefore, you will need to use more than just your practical skills—it will be crucial to put your brain to work. After all, you are a wizard who has completely lost his memory, and as you progress through the levels, you gradually recover it. But be careful—the obstacles are steady, and the difficulty increases progressively in a well-balanced manner, without exaggeration, which is another major positive point of the game.

In summary, Madcap Castle is a very fun game that delivers exactly what was presented at events like the BGS. Although controlling the wizard is relatively easy, its creative levels and background soundtrack transform it into a unique experience.

During over 26 hours of gameplay on Steam, I did not encounter any performance issues, such as the notorious frame drops. Madcap Castle maintained a very consistent and optimized performance. The only bug encountered was a crash when starting the game for the third time, something I believe will be resolved in future updates.

Summary

Madcap Castle” fulfills its objective; the gameplay leaves nothing to be desired and its soundtrack is very appealing, both in its simplicity and exceptional quality. There are some areas that need improvement; during the review, I felt a lack of additional options in the game, such as adjustments for screen resolution and volume controls for both the soundtrack and SFX.

If you identify with the retro style and its approach, we’re talking about a game that is practically a must for dedicated gamers. In other words, “Madcap Castle” is a game that should be part of your Steam library. Therefore, we can confidently say that every cent is well spent on this incredible adventure and shared nostalgia.
