How to change your nickname on PlayStation

Changing your nickname, also known as your online ID, on PlayStation is a straightforward process. Whether you’re looking to update your username to something more relevant or simply want a change, the following guide will walk you through the steps to make it happen.

Step 1: Sign in to Your PlayStation Account

  1. Turn on your PlayStation and ensure you’re connected to the internet.
  2. Log in to the account where you want to change the nickname.

Step 2: Navigate to the Profile Settings

  1. From the Home screen, go to the top menu and select your profile icon.
  2. Scroll down and select Profile.

Step 3: Access the Online ID Option

  1. In the Profile menu, select Edit Profile.
  2. Choose Online ID from the list of options.

Step 4: Change Your Online ID

  1. You’ll see a screen with your current Online ID and an option to enter a new one.
  2. Enter your new Online ID. It must be unique, so PlayStation will check its availability. If it’s taken, you’ll need to try another one.
  3. Once you’ve found an available ID, confirm the change.

Step 5: Review and Confirm

  1. PlayStation will present a summary of the change, including any potential impacts, such as compatibility issues with certain games.
  2. Review the information carefully, then select Confirm to finalize the change.

Important Considerations

  • Cost: The first Online ID change is free. Subsequent changes will incur a fee—$9.99 for standard users and $4.99 for PlayStation Plus members.
  • Game Compatibility: Some older games may not fully support Online ID changes. It’s essential to review the list of compatible games provided during the change process.
  • Reverting: If you encounter issues, you can revert to your previous Online ID for free, but this may not resolve all issues in certain games.

Step 6: Verify the Change

  1. After confirming, log out and back in to ensure the changes have taken effect.
  2. You should see your new Online ID reflected across the PlayStation Network.

Final Thoughts

Changing your nickname on PlayStation is a simple way to refresh your online identity. Just be sure to consider any potential impacts on your gaming experience and take advantage of the initial free change wisely. With this guide, you should be able to navigate the process with ease.
