How to use Battery Saver Mode on iPhone

The iPhone is renowned for its sleek design, powerful performance, and seamless user experience. However, like all smartphones, battery life can be a concern, especially during long days away from a charger. Apple has equipped the iPhone with a feature called Battery Saver Mode (also known as Low Power Mode), which helps conserve battery life when you need it most. In this article, we’ll guide you through how to enable and effectively use Battery Saver Mode on your iPhone.

What is Battery Saver Mode?

Battery Saver Mode, or Low Power Mode, is a feature designed to extend the life of your iPhone’s battery by reducing power consumption. When enabled, the iPhone temporarily reduces or disables certain background activities and visual effects, such as:

  • Email fetching
  • Background app refresh
  • Automatic downloads
  • Visual effects
  • Some iCloud services

These adjustments help minimize battery drain, allowing your iPhone to last longer on a single charge.

When Should You Use Battery Saver Mode?

Battery Saver Mode is particularly useful when:

  • Your iPhone’s battery is running low, and you’re not near a charger.
  • You know you’ll be away from a power source for an extended period.
  • You want to conserve battery during long trips or busy days.

It’s an excellent tool for managing battery life without compromising the essential functions of your device.

How to Enable Battery Saver Mode on iPhone

Enabling Battery Saver Mode is quick and easy. Here are two methods to turn it on:

Method 1: Using the Settings App
  1. Open the Settings App: Locate the “Settings” app on your iPhone’s home screen and tap to open it.
  2. Scroll to Battery: Scroll down and tap on “Battery.”
  3. Enable Low Power Mode: Toggle the switch next to “Low Power Mode” to the ON position. The battery icon in the status bar will turn yellow, indicating that Battery Saver Mode is active.
Method 2: Using Control Center
  1. Access Control Center: Swipe down from the top-right corner of the screen on an iPhone with Face ID, or swipe up from the bottom of the screen on an iPhone with a Home button to open the Control Center.
  2. Find the Battery Saver Icon: If you have customized your Control Center, you might see the battery icon (it looks like a battery with a percentage inside).
  3. Enable Low Power Mode: Tap the icon to enable Battery Saver Mode instantly.

Note: If you don’t see the Battery Saver icon in Control Center, you can add it by going to Settings > Control Center > Customize Controls, then tapping the green plus icon next to “Low Power Mode.”

What Happens When Battery Saver Mode is On?

When you enable Battery Saver Mode, the following changes occur:

  • Performance Throttling: Your iPhone’s performance may be slightly reduced to conserve battery. This means apps might load a bit slower, and animations could be less smooth.
  • Automatic Lock Shortened: The auto-lock time is set to 30 seconds by default, reducing screen-on time when not in use.
  • Visual Effects: Certain visual effects like motion and brightness might be reduced.
  • Email Fetching: Email fetching is reduced or disabled, and you’ll need to manually refresh your inbox.
  • Background App Refresh: Background activities, such as app refreshing, are minimized.

Despite these changes, essential functions like calling, texting, and using most apps will still work as usual.

When Does Battery Saver Mode Turn Off?

Battery Saver Mode automatically turns off when your iPhone reaches 80% charge or higher, ensuring that your device returns to full functionality without any extra steps.

Tips for Maximizing Battery Life Beyond Battery Saver Mode

While Battery Saver Mode is an excellent tool for conserving power, here are some additional tips to help maximize battery life:

  1. Dim the Screen: Lower your screen brightness or enable Auto-Brightness in Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size > Auto-Brightness.
  2. Turn Off Unnecessary Features: Disable Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or Location Services when not in use.
  3. Limit Background Activities: Reduce the number of apps refreshing in the background by going to Settings > General > Background App Refresh.
  4. Update iOS: Ensure your iPhone is running the latest version of iOS, as updates often include battery optimization improvements.

Battery Saver Mode is a simple yet powerful feature that can significantly extend your iPhone’s battery life when you need it most. By understanding how to enable and manage this feature, along with a few extra battery-saving tips, you can keep your iPhone running longer throughout the day. Whether you’re on a long journey or simply want to get the most out of your battery, Battery Saver Mode is there to help.
