The new generation of Apple TV has been available internationally for some time now. One neat extra that comes with the gadget is its screensavers—beautiful sequences of famous locations that change as the day goes by. If you enjoy that feature and wish you could have it on your computer, know that you can. In my full article, you’ll learn how to install it on your laptop or desktop!
John Coates and Dmitry Sadakov managed to develop a direct access point to Apple’s image servers, making those packages compatible with both macOS and Windows machines. The links at the end of this post will take you to the appropriate download page for your OS (all instructions are in English). If you have multiple monitors, you can even configure a different screensaver for each one.
The project is called Aerial, and you install it like any normal app. Then just open your computer’s personalization settings and select the new package so those stunning images start decorating your screen. Both versions look great even on high‑resolution displays. Now we can only hope Apple won’t cut off access (it hasn’t since 2015) to these gorgeous screensavers, since the image updates are fetched online directly from Apple’s servers.
Windows
It’s straightforward on Microsoft’s OS: just download the Windows build, right‑click it, choose “Install,” and that’s it—magic done!
macOS
On macOS it’s even easier: download the macOS build and open the downloaded file. Then go to System Preferences → Desktop & Screen Saver → Screen Saver, select “Aerial,” click Screen Saver Options, and configure your preferences.
That’s it—magic complete! 😀
