    4. Megabyte (MB)

    A megabyte (MB) is 1,024 kilobytes, or 1,048,576 bytes. In practice, 1 MB is often rounded to 1 million bytes, but 1,024 KB is the official definition in most computing contexts.

    5. Gigabyte (GB)

    A gigabyte (GB) is 1,024 megabytes or 1,073,741,824 bytes. Today, most modern digital devices, from smartphones to laptops, have storage capacities measured in gigabytes.

    6. Terabyte (TB)

    A terabyte (TB) is 1,024 gigabytes or 1,099,511,627,776 bytes. Large-scale storage systems, such as external hard drives or data centers, often measure storage in terabytes. Cloud storage providers also offer storage space measured in terabytes.

    7. Petabyte (PB)

    A petabyte (PB) is 1,024 terabytes or 1,125,899,906,842,624 bytes. A petabyte of storage can hold about 250,000 DVDs worth of data or the equivalent of about 500 billion pages of standard text.

    • 1 PB = 1,024 TB.

    8. Exabyte (EB)

    An exabyte (EB) is 1,024 petabytes or 1,152,921,504,606,846,976 bytes. As of now, exabytes are primarily used to measure data in the largest data centers and the internet infrastructure used by major companies like Google, Amazon, and Facebook.

    • 1 EB = 1,024 PB.

    9. Zettabyte (ZB)

    A zettabyte (ZB) is 1,024 exabytes or 1,180,591,620,717,411,303,424 bytes. A zettabyte is an incredibly large amount of data. As of today, global data traffic across all networks is still far from reaching the scale of a zettabyte, but it’s expected that the world will generate zettabytes of data within the next few decades.

    • 1 ZB = 1,024 EB.

    10. Yottabyte (YB)

    A yottabyte (YB) is 1,024 zettabytes or 1,208,925,819,614,629,174,706,176 bytes. A yottabyte is currently more of a theoretical measurement, as the amount of data generated and stored globally is nowhere near this scale. However, in the near future, as technology continues to evolve and data generation increases, yottabytes could become a more meaningful measurement.


    • 1 YB = 1,024 ZB.

    How Much Data Can We Store in These Units?
