Rocket League is the sequel to “Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars.” And just like its predecessor, this game follows a very creative premise: What would happen if we created soccer games with highly customizable cars that have the ability to perform double jumps? Psyonix, the developer, decided to answer that question. Check out my complete review below!
The game achieves its goal in a highly enjoyable way, powered by a spectacular graphics engine (Unreal Engine). Released on July 7th, the game does not feature any sort of storyline, focusing entirely on multiplayer and teamwork between players—whether in 2v2, 3v3, or 4v4 modes (there is even a 1v1 mode available).
There are three modes:
1. Season, where you build your own team (you plus 1 to 3 bots) to compete against teams of bots;
2. Exhibition, where one player can add up to three other local players to practice against a team of up to four computer-controlled opponents, with three difficulty levels: Novice (easy), Professional (medium), and Idol (hard);
3. Online Play, which clearly seeks to provide matches for gamers ranging from 1v1 up to 4v4.
And to keep the game fair, no car is better than another—only bigger or smaller, and more or less attractive. So, a car that a player unlocks at level 20 could be the same as one a beginner gets in their very first match. As mentioned in the first paragraph, the game includes up to 11 cars, each with a variety of decals, wheels, turbos, antennas, and even hats.
It is worth noting that the connection to the servers is not very stable, leading to drops, lag, and other internet-related issues. The game does not have voice acting, nor does it feature any vocal commentary during gameplay; however, all the written content has been translated into Brazilian Portuguese.
