The most notable change in Dark Souls III compared to its predecessors lies in the combat system. FromSoftware knows combat has always been the series’ cornerstone—and they’ve honed it further to satisfy both veterans and newcomers.

Fights feel slightly faster and more dynamic thanks to the addition of unique special moves for each of the dozens of weapons you discover. These “Weapon Arts” add a strategic layer to every duel and encourage you to experiment with new gear.

Another major return is the Mana bar—absent since Demon’s Souls—which lets you cast spells more freely, leading to richer, more varied battles both in single‑player and PvP.

The story in Dark Souls III remains as mysterious and minimal as ever, with side‑quests entirely optional. You could play never looking at the lore, focused solely on the exquisite combat and the thrill of defeating that impossible boss.

Environments are breathtaking and oppressive, enemies are grotesque and menacing—every detail is as meticulously crafted as combat itself. Once you “step in,” you might feel compelled to unravel its narrative on your own, without hand‑holding.

The difficulty curve feels more consistent: new mechanics are introduced gradually during the linear opening hours before the world “opens up” to optional areas—much like Bloodborne.

Dark Souls has always been fair to players—and Dark Souls III feels even more patient, guiding those who’ve never dared enter Lordran. But don’t be fooled, veteran: it’s no easier or more forgiving. Mistakes still incur the harshest penalties.

Yes, Dark Souls III is brutally difficult, as only this series can be. Yet its construction helps demystify the “Impossible Game” label. Hidetaka Miyazaki’s level design remains peerless—every item, enemy and trap is placed with surgical precision.

This time, there’s no one else to blame. The franchise’s mantra—every action has a consequence, and it will never be unfair—shines brighter than ever, making Dark Souls III arguably the series’ crowning achievement.

    Summary

Dark Souls 3” maintains the essence of its predecessors, but is much more dynamic, fierce and captivating than ever. The third episode of the saga proves that Dark Souls is much more than just a new game.

“Dark Souls III” is a game where, for every mistake you make, you will receive your punishment, but all the effort and dedication you put into the game will be duly rewarded.
