Crimson Dragon is a shooter‑style game—meaning you don’t control the dragon’s entire flight path, but rather the maneuvers it can perform to dodge attacks. In other words, the game is basically “dodge incoming fire and strike enemies on screen,” reminiscent of classic arcade shooters, with guaranteed fun.
In the game, you take control of a young dragon pilot living on a planet called Draco. On this world, everything and everyone wants you dead (yes!), and to defend themselves, humanity has learned to harness the planet’s dragon population. Right from the start, you’re drawn into a surprisingly engaging storyline.
Despite the “hostile” label, Draco is far from industrialized. Crimson Dragon’s environments feel thoroughly natural—lush green and blue landscapes, forests, thickets, and occasional caves all set the stage for your adventures.
Gameplay beyond the standard all‑out shooting is where Crimson Dragon shines. There are multiple mission types: most reuse the same regions but offer different routes to complete. One mode tasks you with collecting yellow prisms that blink on your HUD while avoiding enemy fire. And in the much‑anticipated Free Flight mode, you finally gain full control of your dragon instead of following a fixed track.
Each mission objective is graded from E to S. Better scores yield more experience points for both you and your dragon. As you level up, you unlock a variety of new dragons—each with its own elemental affinity and unique abilities. Like an RPG, you can evolve your dragon over time, unlocking stronger skills to face element‑resistant foes.

Crimson Dragon is a “hostile” style game with a fun genre, where you finally fulfill your long-awaited dream of flying with a dragon in a game. The game has its strong points, as every game does, but it is still far from being considered the best launch title for the Xbox One, since Crimson Dragon is exclusive to the Xbox One. Remember that Xbox Live Gold subscribers get Crimson Dragon at no additional cost in the “Games with Gold” program. Therefore, it is (literally) free to play the game! 🙂
