“One of the most memorable cartoons of the 20th and 21st centuries. Its story, characters and writing are utterly captivating. “Little Bear” is known for delivering fantastic fun for kids of all ages. And here at least, it quickly became a huge hit. To give you an idea, it aired at multiple times on free‑to‑air TV—perhaps most famously in the afternoons. Alongside it, we must mention some of the show’s most iconic characters: the so‑called “chicken,” “cat,” and “duck.” No less important are the ones who truly carry the story: Mother Bear, Father Bear and Grandma Bear.
The first is remarkably gentle and above all affectionate. Also famous for her delectable sweets, cakes and more. In Brazil, the show was broadcast at various times—first and foremost in the late ’90s. Beyond TV Cultura, it also aired on other networks. In Rio de Janeiro, for example, on the channel TVE.
In terms of ratings, it not only reached third place but even ranked second at times—outranking Band, Record and SBT. It consistently pulled in around 4 to 5 audience points, making it one of TV Cultura’s most profitable properties.
At the height of “Little Bear,” multiple DVDs and award‑winning books were released. In total, there were 5 seasons, each episode running about 30 minutes, airing from 1995 to 2000 (and in Brazil from 1999 to 2006). That adds up to 65 episodes.
Beyond TV Cultura, it also aired on networks like Nickelodeon and HBO Family. Today, it remains one of the franchise’s top‑grossing properties and is celebrated for its warm, endearing central character. With all that success, it even inspired a feature film—rooted in the work of animation legend Maurice Sendak.
